Carlos Lora Yunen is an architect, researcher, and entrepreneur whose work sits at the frontier of architecture, robotics, and artificial intelligence. Trained in the UK and holding a distinction from the Architectural Association, he has spent more than sixteen years exploring how buildings and objects might move, sense, and think. His work challenges the traditional boundaries of architecture, proposing instead a future in which the built environment behaves as a living, adaptive system.
Carlos began his career at David Chipperfield Architects, contributing to major public projects and honing the design discipline that would later underpin his own ventures. In 2014 he founded Archlabs, an international practice that he grew into a team of more than thirty-five architects and engineers across the UK, the Caribbean, and South America. Over eleven years, he led civic, cultural, and residential projects while steadily building the financial and organisational foundations that would support a new, more technologically ambitious chapter.
Alongside his practice, Carlos joined the Design Research Lab (DRL) at the Architectural Association, where he teaches and mentors postgraduate students at one of the world’s leading centres of experimental architecture. At the DRL he guides students in architectural writing, critical thinking, and the development of conceptual clarity—helping them articulate the intellectual and technical frameworks behind their work. This academic engagement keeps him deeply connected to frontier research in AI, computation, and material intelligence.
Kinetic systems have been central to Carlos’ design imagination for more than a decade, culminating in projects such as Pulse, a published kinetic installation that showcased the potential of responsive artefacts. These explorations laid the groundwork for Kinetic AI, the company he founded to transform experimental prototypes into deployable technologies. Based in Oxford, KineticAI focuses on creating objects, surfaces, and architectural environments capable of real-time adaptation—systems that merge AI-driven behaviour with physical actuation.
As Founder and CEO, Carlos leads the company’s vision, research direction, and technical development. He oversees the creation of proprietary AI behavioural algorithms, kinetic hardware systems, and scalable platforms for spatial intelligence. His entrepreneurial experience allows him to navigate both the creative and financial dimensions of deep-tech innovation.
Under his leadership, KineticAI is building a team of AI specialists, roboticists, and computational designers while forging partnerships with architecture firms, developers, and research institutions. His goal is to establish KineticAI as the global leader in adaptive architecture—advancing a new generation of intelligent environments that can respond to users, people, climate, and context.
Carlos brings together an unusual combination of expertise: architectural theory, computational research, hands-on experimentation, entrepreneurship, and investment acumen. This synthesis positions him uniquely to steer one of the most ambitious technological trajectories in the built environment.
